YOUR INTRO TO

HYBRID

So, there’s a few different electric and hybrid systems out there, and we want to explain the benefits to help you make the choice that’s right for you.

Identifying Your Hybrid

All hybrids have a conventional petrol or diesel engine, as well as an electric motor that is powered by an additional battery. The electric motor works together with the petrol or diesel engine to help use less fuel.

Some hybrids have large batteries that you plug in to charge & can travel several miles using only the electric motor. These are known as plug-in hybrids.

Other hybrids have batteries that are charged only by recovering energy that would normally be lost during braking and deceleration, and do not need to be plugged in to charge. These are self-charging hybrids and it’s this kind that Suzuki is using.

How does Suzuki HYBRID work?

It’s simple really. Our HYBRID system uses an electric motor called an integrated starter generator (ISG) that works alongside your car’s petrol engine to help improve its efficiency. The ISG is powered by an extra battery that is charged as the car decelerates and brakes.

The extra battery has several other benefits. It helps power all the additional electrical systems like safety features, air conditioning, Bluetooth and smartphone connectivity to name a few. And that’s not including all the electrical components that help the car to move. So, having an extra battery helps power your car and relieves some of the load on the standard 12-volt battery.

What it means for you?

The big plus of the Suzuki HYBRID system is that it can lead to a significant improvement in your car’s efficiency, as much as a 15% boost to fuel economy and a 25% reduction of CO2 emissions, based on the official WLTP combined fuel consumption figures, compared to previous non-hybrid Suzuki petrol models.

FIVE REASONS TO BUY

A SUZUKI HYBRID

Suzuki. HYBRID. It’s happening. See what this new addition to the Suzuki Range means for you:

1. LOWER RUNNING COSTS

HYBRID has many advantages, but the one that Suzuki drivers will notice is the reduced costs of running a Hybrid versus a non-hybrid petrol model.

Based on the official WLTP combined fuel consumption figures, HYBRID consistently improves fuel economy by between 10% - 15%*. How? Well the HYBRID system provides electrical assistance to the petrol engine in certain conditions, so less fuel is needed. The HYBRID battery stores energy that would normally be lost during braking and deceleration, so it can be used again. All without you having to compromise how you drive.

2. LOWER CO2 EMISSIONS

Hybrid cars are becoming more and more popular, and one big reason is the reduction in carbon dioxide emissions they offer. Having an electric motor that does some of the driving and therefore takes load off the petrol engine, means greater efficiency and less CO2.

Based on the official WLTP combined fuel consumption figures,  HYBRID consistently improves fuel economy by between 10% - 15%*, which is an impressive reduction by any standards, but particularly impressive for a system that doesn't require a radical change to how you drive.

3. NO CHARGING with Suzuki

Worried about charging? You don't need to be. With Suzuki HYBRID, there’s no charging required. The car charges the battery itself, by recovering energy that would normally be lost during braking and deceleration and storing it in a second battery - so you don't need to think about it.

4. A SMOOTHER, DRIVE

HYBRID doesn't just improve your Suzuki’s efficiency: it also improves how it drives.

The system includes an integrated starter generator (ISG), which acts as a starter motor when the engine has auto stopped (for example at traffic lights). The engine restart is smoother and quieter than in cars with a traditional starter motor.

On Swift Sport, Vitara and S-Cross, the HYBRID system also helps to improve performance by enhancing the engine’s torque output at low rpm, using the ISG and energy stored in the lithium ion battery. So, it makes your driving experience feel smoother and more responsive.

5. YOU DON'T HAVE TO CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT HOW YOU DRIVE

A Suzuki HYBRID runs just like a regular car with a petrol engine, so you don't have to change how you drive.

Our hybrid components are extremely compact and light. That means,  Suzuki’s remain light and fun to drive and keep their practical interior space without any compromise from the hybrid system.

All you have to do in your Suzuki HYBRID is drive it as you've driven every other Suzuki you've ever owned (or any other car, for that matter), enjoying the smoother, more efficient performance, all the while saving a few pennies.

THE SUZUKI HYBRID RANGE:

WHY IT MAKES SENSE.

Here at Suzuki, we are hard at work making sure you're covered with cars that are cleaner to drive.

Here at Suzuki, we are hard at work making sure you're covered with cars that are cleaner to drive.

It’s not science-fiction. Pretty soon we'll all be driving vehicles that are fully powered by electricity. But at this point, car owners are still considering whether electric vehicles (EVs) are right for them yet. Especially with concerns such as the distances they can cover per charge and the practicalities of how and where to charge.

This is where the Suzuki HYBRID System comes in.

What does Suzuki HYBRID do?

  1. An electric motor assists the petrol engine, which is powered by an extra lithium-ion battery
  2. The electric motor enhances the maximum torque output of the engine at low rpm (for Swift Sport, Vitara and S-Cross) to provide a more responsive drive feeling
  3. It improves fuel efficiency by around 10-15%, while reducing CO2 emissions by around 25%, according to the official WLTP combined fuel consumption test versus non-hybrid Suzuki petrol models.
  4. Notice that your Suzuki feels more responsive with our HYBRID system, if you choose a Swift Sport, Vitara or S-Cross compared to previous models not fitted with this technology.

Be part of the future with our self-charging HYBRID technology. Greater fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions* will help take your Vitara a few miles further on a tank. All without having to plug it in to charge.
