Only a world premiere would be fitting enough to showcase something as exciting as this.
Accelerating Hyundai’s EV vision, the all-new, second-generation Hyundai KONA was recently showcased in a digital unveiling, offering one of the most comprehensive product packages in the B-SUV segment.
Set to go on sale in Spring 2023, the KONA Electric hits the ground running with its endless plethora of capabilities.
Retaining its iconic character, the KONA certainly supports the active lifestyles for customers of all ages and generations.
In an unconventional move, Hyundai Motor developed the new KONA as an EV first, in line wit the company’s March 2022 accelerated electrification strategy announcement that will bring 11 new Hyundai EV’s to market by 2030.
The all-new KONA has evolved into a larger, yet still urban-centric SUV with bolder styling that conveys a more dynamic road presence and driver-centric interior. To provide maximised ‘living space’ for customers, the all-new model is 4,355 mm in length, which is 150 mm longer than the previous generation, based on the EV Variant. It has also gained 25 mm in width and 60 mm in wheelbase length compared to the previous model, without losing any of its iconic design identity. Its interior dominated by Hyundai’s twin 12.3-inch displays.
Despite its futuristic appearance, the all-new KONA never lets one forget that it’s an SUV. Its dynamic styling is accentuated with boldly sculpted wheel arch cladding that incorporates headlamps and rear lights, reinforcing KONA’s robust underpinning.
Among its very long list of attributes, the new KONA boasts over-the-air (OTA) software updates, active air flaps, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) outlets, Head-up Display, i-PEDAL driving mode, Smart Regenerative System, electronic-Active Sound Design (e-ASD) and additional safety features.
The font of the all-new KONA is highlighted by the stretched Seamless Horizon Lamp, which is pixelated on the Seamless Horizon Lamp that adds to the EV’s distinctive character.
KONA Electric offers even more features for a thoroughly improved customer experience. Battery preconditioning ensues secure charging and range performance in winter and a frozen charge door prevention system enables the user to open the charge door in a minus 30-degree environment.
Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO, Hyundai Motor Company, commented: “KONA Electric will play a major role alongside our IONIQ models in reinforcing Hyundai’s EV leadership. The new model builds on the great reputation of the first generation KONA Electric and is designed and engineered to lead the competition with its many outstanding features. At Hyundai, we don’t see the EV revolution as just the latest trend. We believe it is a pivot point for not only the industry but also for society. Through the implementation of eco-friendly mobility solutions like our EVs, we hope to speed the transition to clean mobility and make progress for humanity.”
Heui Won Yang, Executive Vice President, Head of Total Vehicle Development Tech Unit, added: “We made KONA for practically everyone and every lifestyle with a range of powertrains and host of technologies and design features that will add value to our customers’ daily lives.”
The all-new KONA comes in a choice of three different powertrain options: mild-hybrid, self-charging hybrid and fully electric.
It almost goes without saying that the all-new KONA brims with the latest advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), clever technology for safe-assured parking and a wide range of driving convenience functions, including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go (SCC w/ S&G), Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC) and Driver Attention Warning (DAW).
