Land Rover Discovery Sport Gets Advanced New Ingenium Engine

Land Rover has announced that the new Ingenium diesel engine will be introduced to the Discovery Sport, following its extremely successful launch in September of 2014. The new engine will offer increased performance and improved economy.

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium diesel engine has been created to deliver boosted torque and power outputs whilst at the same time providing reduced levels of CO2 emissions and lowering fuel consumption. They will replace the current diesel engine, making the Land Rover Discovery Sport one of the most efficient premium compact SUV's in the world.

Available in a choice of two different power outputs (150HP and 180HP), the Discovery Sports new EU6 compliant Ingenium engine will deliver fuel economy of up to 57.7mpg whilst emitting just 129g/km of CO2. It will also create enough power to allow the Discovery Sport to accelerate to 62mph in just 8.9 seconds with a top speed of 117mph.

Murray Dietsch, Director of Land Rover Programmes, said: “Land Rover's new family of Ingenium engines is truly class leading. By introducing it to the Discovery Sport, we can now offer enhanced fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions, while improving overall performance. The Ingenium engine confirms Discovery Sport's position as the most versatile and capable compact premium SUV in the world."

Designed to maximise driver comfort, a number of measures were taken to reduce vibrations levels including the addition of stiff cylinder blocks and decoupled injectors, reducing friction to create smoother and quieter ride. Selective Catalytic Reduction coupled with a new low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation system significantly reduces both CO2 and NOx emissions.

The Ingenium engined Discovery Sport will be designated as an 'E-Capability' vehicle with a blue 'Sport' badge to on display, identifying it as the most efficient Discovery Sport variant. All models fitted with either the 150HP or 180HP Ingenium engine with 18-inch wheels and low rolling resistance tyres will be given the 'E-Capability' branding.

The Discovery Sport comes with a range of great safety features including a pedestrian airbag, autonomous emergency braking and a whole host of driver assistance features, all contributing to the Five Star Euro NCAP rating. It also comes with a fantastic Heads-Up Display and an 8-inch touch screen 'InControl Touch' infotainment system.
