2017 World Car of the Year

Suzuki has received 2 nominations in the Word Car of the Year awards under the Urban Car category.

To qualify for this category, cars must be:

  • Less than 4 meters long
  • Suitable for everyday use in an urban environment
  • On sale in 2 continents by Spring 2017

The chosen cars are the Baleno and the new Ignis compact crossover. The Baleno is 3.99 meters long and the Ignis is 3.70 meters long.

The Baleno, first launched in India and now available in Europe was Suzuki's first car with the Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki technology. This system enables the Baleno to achieve 94g/km CO2 emissions.

The Ignis first launched in Japan and will go on sale in Europe from January 2017. The Ignis is compact but still has ample luggage space. Like the Baleno the Ignis will offer the SHVS technology to lower its C02 emissions to 97g/km.

The World Car of the Year judging panel is made up of 73 Automotive journalists with 8 representing the UK and Republic of Ireland.
