Why Go Electric? Making the switch from petrol or diesel engine to electric represents one of the biggest changes to be made in your automotive life. But, with more and more models available and all of the world’s biggest manufacturers embracing low and zero emissions motoring, the variety of options has never been greater.

The electric range

Choosing an electric car used to mean you were limited to just a handful of models. Now, however, there is a host of vehicles to choose from, with everything from hybrid vehicles through to all-electric models meaning there is certain to be something to suit you. At Sturgess Motor Group, we’re delighted to be able to provide you with a range of exceptional models from Jaguar, Land Rover, Hyundai, Suzuki, Fiat and Jeep. Take a closer look today.

The benefits of buying electric

Fully electric cars may be the final step in low-emissions transport, but hybrid cars are proving an increasingly popular halfway house. Dual-energy vehicles are growing in popularity and can be a clever way to bridge the gap between internal combustion engines and fully electric cars. If you’re not quite ready to take the plunge and run an electric vehicle (EV), then the chances are a hybrid or plug-in car could be just the stepping stone you need.

Once you decide to make the switch from combustion engine to electric, you quickly realise that the benefits are plentiful. For instance, purchase prices continue to drop as more vehicles become available, while running costs are already considerably more affordable. Unlike a petrol or diesel model, an all-electric car costs as little as 3-4p per mile to run. Plus, there’s zero CO2 emissions to harm the environment, no road tax, and exemption from congestion and ULEZ charges.

Key benefits include:

  • Cleaner motoring
  • Instant torque
  • Cost-effective driving
  • Exemption from road tax

    Hybrid

Hybrid Vehicles have two power sources that work together - a normal combustion engine and a battery-driven electric motor. This system works to improve fuel economy and automatically switches between the two power sources, using one or both as needed without the need for any intervention.

    Plug-in Hybrid

PHEV's work similar to hybrid cars, but have a higher capacity battery for extended all-electric driving, so you get the benefits of electric motoring on shorter trips as well as hybrid driving. And, if you're unable to recharge for an extended period of time, the vehicle will still function fully as a conventional hybrid.

    Battery Electric

All-electric cars are powered by an electric motor only, so there's no engine - which means no fuel! ! BEV's are recharged by plugging into an electrical outlet or charging station. Recharging can take longer than refueling a conventional vehicle - a full battery charge can take several hours.
