The premium car maker Volvo Cars are paving the way for a new chapter in automotive history with the announcement that every car they launch from 2019 onwards will include an electric motor; making the historic end of cars that have only an internal combustion engine (ICE).
Volvo will be introducing a portfolio of electrified cars across its model range, which includes five fully electric cars between 2019 and 2021. Three of the models will be Volvo models and two will be high-performance electrified cars from Polestar, Volvo Car’s performance arm. These five cars will use a range of petrol and diesel plug-in hybrid and mild-hybrid 48-volt options in all models.
“This is about the customer, people increasingly demand electrified cars, and we want to respond to our customers’ current and future needs. You can now pick and choose whichever electrified Volvo you wish.”Håkan Samuelsson, President and Chief Executive of Volvo Cars.
More information about the fully electric range will be announced at a later date
