After months of speculation and anticipation, Volvo has finally unveiled the all-new XC90.

The all-new seven-seater has a sleek and striking look – and it's everything we hoped it would be! The safest and most luxurious Volvo yet, it is equipped with new, more fuel efficient powertrains.

It marks a whole new era for Volvo; “The XC90 paves the way for a portfolio of exciting new cars to come in the following years," said Hakan Samuelsson, President and CEO of Volvo Car Group. Future models will follow the XC90's minimalist and elegant design direction.

The new face of Volvo

The all-new XC90's striking looks start with the new, more striking iron mark logo on the floating grille, for a new distinctive face and character all of its own. It also features T-shaped 'Thor's Hammer' Daytime Running Lights, making it distinctive even at night.

It's distinctive from the back, too – the vertical tail lights glow in a distinctive red line, day or night.

The XC90 delivers an all-new SUV experience, without compromises.

“You get the in-command feel, generous interior space and flexible capability combined with the agility and smooth comfort of a much smaller and lower car. The adrenaline rush that is key to true driving pleasure is delivered by powertrains that offer an unrivalled combination of power and clean operation. And since the XC90 carries the Volvo badge, world-class safety is standard," says Dr Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President, Research and Development of Volvo Car Group.

These new world-class safety features use the most comprehensive and technologically sophisticated technologies available in the automotive industry – and includes two world-first safety technologies, a run-off road protection package and auto brake at intersection capability.

These new technologies take Volvo significantly closer to its vision that no one will be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car by 2020.

The all-new XC90 has been in construction for the past three years, built on Volvo's new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), and features a range of new technologies.

The first thing you will notice when you get inside the car is the tablet-like touchscreen control console – the heart of the new in-car control system. Virtually button-free, it gives an entirely new way to control the car and access a range of Internet-based products and services. It's accompanied by a top of the range audio system, supplied by Bowers & Wilkins.

The top-of-the-line system in the XC90 features a 1,400W Class D amplifier and 19 Bowers & Wilkins speakers, with one of the first air-ventilated subwoofers in a car – turning the whole interior into a giant subwoofer!

The luxurious and sophisticated interior has a simple, uncluttered look, taking its design cues from Volvo's Scandinavian heritage. Made from materials such as soft leather and wood with handcrafted details, it feels spacious and light inside. And this feeling continues into the backseats, with the third row offering class-leading comfort for two passengers up to 170cm tall.

The all-new XC90 is also customisable, with a range of accessories available. The two major exterior styling themes are:

  • Urban Luxury package, combining a colour co-ordinated body kit with polished stainless steel details, such as front deco frames, front and rear skid plates and side scuff plates, and 21" polished wheels
  • Rugged Luxury kit, with tech matte black exterior trim, stainless steel skid plates, running boards with illumination, and integrated exhaust pipes, with unique 22" wheels.

On the road prices for the XC90 D5 AWD Momentum model start at £45,000, and it will be available to order at Sturgess Volvo from October, following the Paris Motor Show. Customer deliveries are expected to arrive in May 2015.
