Love is.....your first car..........

Love is.....your first car......

Half of all motorists say they will "never forget" their first set of wheels, according to a new survey.

A quarter of motorists loved their first car so much they even went so far as to give it a name, with monikers including Egbert, Florence, Mabel and, more unusually, Gobble, all admitted to by drivers polled by Castrol.

The survey of 2,000 motorists found that half of all respondents classified their relationship with their first car as a "love affair", with 40 per cent saying they remembered it "fondly".

Drivers under 24 are the most likely to name their first car, while over-55s are the least likely. One in 10 people said that if they had the chance, they would definitely buy back their first car, so strong is the bond. The brand that first-timers were most likely to enjoy was Ford, accounting for 30 per cent of first purchases, followed by Vauxhall, Fiat, Peugeot and Volkswagen.

The majority of British motorists (62 per cent) chose a car that was six years old or more the first time around, and they kept it for an average of three years before moving on. Most bought the car themselves (57 per cent), but 44 per cent of car owners aged under 24 said their parents funded their first car.
