Carers and the Motability Scheme

If you are carer to a person who qualifies for the Motability Scheme, the team at Sturgess are here to support you. Someone who provides unpaid care for a friend or family member who would be unable to cope without their support is defined as a carer. If that describes you then you are one of seven million people throughout the UK.

As the carer of someone with disabilities you are, of course, welcome to help with all the decisions and processes involved in getting a car through the Motability Scheme. However, we can only discuss the Motability agreement of the customer (i.e. the person you care for) with you if they add you as a nominee. This can happen at any point in the process and is easy to do – the customer simply needs to complete a nominee form.

Our Motability specialists can help with completing this form and once you are an appointed nominee you can speak on the customer’s behalf. You will also be able to make minor changes such as adding new drivers to the insurance policy of the Motability car.

You can ask questions or get assistance at any time from the Motability team at our dealership in Leicester. Simply enquire online, start a Live Chat or phone us, and we will respond with clear, impartial advice. You can also receive support from the Carer’s Trust which works to assist you with the challenges you may face by providing services and recognition for the unpaid carers in the UK.
