The popular, instantly recognisable Range Rover Evoque is a luxurious and high-performance small SUV that has enjoyed lasting appeal since its 2011 launch. Dynamic and modern, it’s designed to provide a flawless driving experience, and includes plenty of user-friendly technology.
The design of the Evoque merges the chunky, practical body of a Land Rover with the sleek lines of a coupé in the manner of a concept car – although it’s perfectly suited to everyday use. Available in three and five-door versions, it’s a stylish head-turner with a powerful road stance. Motability users will appreciate the powered gesture tailgate, which opens automatically when drivers activate the sensor under the rear end, and wide-opening doors of the three-door model.
The Evoque offers a spacious cabin with ample legroom back and front. The dashboard layout, which appears to merge with the center console, is refreshingly simple and tactile, hosting chunky circular controls. Heated leather seats as standard make for comfortable driving on colder days.
The Evoque’s 420-litre boot can accommodate a variety of mobility equipment, and can be extended to 1,455 litres with the rear seats folded flat.
The new 2016 Evoque has been fitted with Land Rover’s efficient Ingenium 2.0-litre diesel engine, which is available in 148bhp and 178bhp outputs. It’s impressively efficient, with the former output returning up to 67.3mpg combined and emitting just 109g/km of CO2, meaning low road tax. Also new is an optional nine-speed automatic gearbox that offers a seriously refined driving experience, optimising the car’s performance and delivering a smooth ride.
The technology found in the Evoque works to streamline everyday driving. Rear park assist is included as standard, and can be upgraded to full park assist with parallel and perpendicular parking capabilities. This is a great option for Motability users who find the swivelling required by parking demanding.
The InControl series of apps that connect your smartphone to the Evoque are another example of Range Rover’s innovative technology. They can help users find a parking space, locate their car in a car park, and transmit location and diagnostic information in the event of a breakdown.
The Evoque commands a five-star EuroNCAP safety rating. Airbags can be found throughout the cabin, and active safety features such as electronic stability control and the optional lane-keeping assistance system work to prevent collisions before they happen.
