2016 All-New Range Rover Evoque Convertible revealed

Land Rover has just revealed the world’s first luxury compact SUV convertible. Designed for all seasons, the new Range Rover Evoque Convertible maintains the outstanding features of the Evoque, but adds another dimension for customers looking for a unique combination of roof-down luxury and refinement.

Exterior Design

One of the most apparent features of the new Evoque Convertible is its sophisticated roof which aims to further enhance its desirability and appeal. The use of this roof couldn’t be easier either, with the simple touch of a button in the centre console the roof comes down and can operate at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour, which stows in 18 seconds and can be raised in 21 seconds.

Land Rover designers have maintained Evoque’s renowned bold and progressive exterior design but have added a deeper, more aggressive front bumper as well as more striking lines and a tapered roof. Adding further design differentiation is the choice of 11 alloy wheel designs and finishes ranging from 17 to 20-inches.

The Evoque Convertible is available in 13 exterior colours including new Baltoro Ice and Waitomo Grey metallics. Users can also choose the option of the Black Pack which provides an even more dramatic presence.

Interior design and Technology

The new Evoque Convertible is packed with highly-innovative technologies and as standard includes: Climate Control, Rear Parking Camera, Cruise Control, Heated front seats, Terrain Response, Trailer Stability Assist, Hill Decent Control and rain-sensor windscreen wipers just to name a few.

At the heart of the high-class cabin is an all-new high-resolution 10.2-inch touchscreen with the latest InControl Touch Pro system. This highly-responsive system not only provides navigation and a seamless sound system, but also 3G connectivity, smartphone integration, remote tracking and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The new Evoque Convertible has space to cater for four adults comfortably thanks to its revised seats and deeply padded armrests. However, boot space has not been compromised with the luggage compartment offering a respectable 251-litres of storage with the roof open or closed.

Throughout the new model, Land Rover have kept the design minimalistic with its soft touches and revised contour lines to provide a sense of space and modernisation.

Safety and Security

Safety hasn’t been forgotten with the new Evoque Convertible with a range of technologies and features available to keep both driver and passengers safe. A Roll-Over Protection Device featuring roll-over bars can be found within the rear bodywork. This innovative design means that in the unlikely event of a roll-over situation two aluminium bars within 90 milliseconds will be deployed to create a survival space for occupants. Along with this is the vehicles A-pillars that have been strengthened to ensure excellent roll-over protection and new under-body bracing, providing outstanding crash protection.

Other safety features include Autonomous Emergency Braking which alerts the driver with both a visual and audible warning if a collision is likely, Lane-Keeping Assist which warns the driver if they are drifting out of their lane by vibrating the steering wheel and a Driver Condition Monitor which reviews driver steering inputs to guard against a driver falling asleep at the wheel. For complete peace of the mind the Evoque Convertible is also fitted with a new airbag system which offers the same level of protection as the coupé’s individual thorax and head airbags.

Engine and transmission

Land Rover’s full suite of lightweight, all-aluminium four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines are available with the new Evoque Convertible. The lightweight Si4 petrol engine offers both high levels of outstanding performance as well as excellent sustainability. This efficient engine can provide 340Nm of torque and a rocketing time of just 7.8 seconds from 0-62mph.

Diesel power comes from Land Rover’s 2.0-litre Ingenium engines which offer an exceptional combination of efficiency and refined performance with fuel economy up to 55mpg and CO2 emissions as low as 149g/km.

As standard the Evoque Convertible includes an advanced ZF nine-speed automatic transmission to provide excellent acceleration and peerless efficiency. Efficient four-wheel drive is also a standard application, facilitating excellent off-road capability together with enhanced on-road agility on all surfaces. In addition to this is Terrain Response System, Wade Sensing and All-Terrain Progress Control to ensure the Evoque Convertible is adaptable for all seasons.

The new Evoque Convertible is due to be on sale from spring 2016 with prices starting from £47,500.
