The achievements of 94 year old former test driver Norman Dewis have been formally recognised and rewarded in Her Majesty's New Years Honours List, with Norman receiving the award as Jaguar celebrates its 80th anniversary.
During an exceptional 33 year career both testing and developing many of the most celebrated Jaguar models of all time, Norman Dewis isarguably Britain's greatest ever test driver. He worked to develop cars such as the Le Mans winning C-type and D-type racing cars, the XK 140 and 150 sports cars, E-type and lightweight E-type, the XJ-S and the XJ Saloons just to name a few - creating one of the most impressive CV's in automotive history.
Three times Formula One World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart had this to say: "Norman Dewis is one of the real characters, not just of the British motor industry but also British Motorsport. He's one of the backroom boys and sometimes they don't get the accolades they should. Her Majesty the Queen and the honours office have very much done the right thing in awarding Norman Dewis an OBE."
