The New Hyundai ix20 made its international debut at the
2015 Geneva International Motor Show at the start of the month and a number of
new design features, technologies and an enhanced engine line-up ensured that
the latest offering from Hyundai drew plenty of attention.
Raf van Nuffel, Head of Project Management at Hyundai Motor Europe, said: “New ix20 retains the versatility and roominess of the original model, while refreshing its design and adding technological enhancements, increasing appeal to a wider range of buyers in Europe."
The exterior has been given a fresh new look, the addition of a new hexagonal front grille combined with Hyundai's newly-designed bi-functional projector headlamps give New ix20 a fiercer front face. The new dynamic exterior is enhanced even further with the addition of a new 15-inch wheel cover design with 16- and 17-inch alloy wheel options.
The interior of the New ix20 delivers the same space and versatility that features in the previous model with increased leg room, head room and shoulder room. The car features an unusually long wheelbase for its class (2615mm) and when coupled with the 1600mm high roofline provides plenty of interior space, similar to what you might expect from larger C-segment vehicles. The cabin has an extra spacious feel thanks to the dual-panel panoramic glass sunroof, proving the rear passengers with an uncompromised view of the outside world.
New ix20 also has a class leading 440-litre boot with all passenger seats up and the outstanding versatility of the sliding 'dive and fold' rear seats allows up to 1,486-litres of luggage capacity with the rear seats completely down. The interior also has several high-end features such a heated steering wheel and a new generation audio system, complete with iPod, USB and AUX connectivity. Customers will also benefit from a wide range of safety features including six airbags, ABS and EBD all fitted as standard.
New ix20 is available in a range of nine exterior colours; one solid colour (Polar White), six metallic colours (Platinum Silver, Micron Grey, Ultimate Red, Ash Blue, Ara Blue, Ruby White) and two pearl colours (Phantom Black and Thunder Grey). Two interior colours will be offered (Black and Two-Tone Beige) with cloth upholstery.
In addition to all of the aesthetic changes that Hyundai have made to New ix20, they have also introduced a new six-speed automatic transmission and upgraded the engine to produce more power and more torque. The 1.4- and 1.6 litre Hyundai 'Gamma' engines have both been upgraded to boost fuel efficiency – the 1.6-litre now comes with a six-speed automatic transmission that provides owners with improved real world fuel economy.
All the engines have been improved to offer enhanced levels of fuel economy and driveability whilst still complying with Euro6 emission standards. Several measures have been taken to help maximise fuel economy and reduce emissions, the new engine features Stop&Go technology, low rolling-resistance tyres, an alternator management system and an 'active air flap' in the front grille to improve the aerodynamics.
New ix20 will start to roll off of Hyundai's European production plant in Nosovice, Czech Republic in May 2015 with pricing and performance specification to be revealed closer to the release date.
