The all-new Fiat Tipo hatchback and Station Wagon have been launched to the UK media, providing them with their first opportunity to showcase its exceptional roominess, high specification, tough quality and outstanding efficiency, not to forget its stylish Italian flair.
Deceptively roomy, the new Fiat Tipo Hatchback is capable of accommodating three six-feet plus adult passengers in the rear – thanks to class-leading leg and head room – within its 4.37m long, 1.79m wide and 1.50m tall dimensions. Its boot capacity is also first-class with a volume of 440-litres, with the Station Wagon adding an extra 110-litres, which at 550-litres is class-leading. The Station Wagon can also carry loads of up to 1.8m in length courtesy of an additional 20cm of length and its flip-and-fold 60/40 split rear seats provide a completely flat load floor.
Loading the boot of the Station Wagon is aided by a low load sill with reconfigurable components such as adjustable and removable storage panels to offer further space in the luggage department. The roller cover can be easily removed with one hand and stored under the floor panel, while two lights, two bag hook and four load-retaining hooks positioned on the floor provide added convenience.
The Fiat Tipo also features numerous handy cabin compartments in a variety of shapes and capacities that total no less than 12-litres. In easy reach of both driver and passengers, these compartments are perfect for storing personal objects such as smartphones, bottles, coins and more. Ultimate comfort is also ensured thanks to excellent driving ergonomics and the smartly placed arranged of the secondary controls which means it can be easily reached by the driver without having to take their eyes off the road.
Both the hatchback and Station Wagon will be offered in three trim levels which will be named in the UK in due-course.
Standard features are generous and at entry-level users will enjoy: air conditioning, remote central locking, front electric windows, body-coloured door mirrors, six airbags, DAB digital radio, split rear seats, USB and Bluetooth connectivity and steering wheel controls. Opt for a higher spec version and you’ll also get five-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system, leather-trimmed steering wheel and gear knob, LED daytime running lights, rear parking sensors and Cruise control, with top of the range also adding satellite navigation, climate control, rear view camera and automatic lights and wipers.
The engine range consists of five engines in total including three petrol and two diesels. The entry-level 1.4-litre 16V FIRE is combined with a six-speed manual gearbox and can accelerate from 0-62mph in 12.1 seconds and offers a top speed of115mph. The official combined cycle fuel economy figure is 49.6mpg for both body styles and their CO2 emissions are both 132g/km.
Other engines include a 1.4 T-Jet Turbo petrol with 120hp and 206Nm, a 1.6-litre e-TorQ producing 110hp and 152Nm and diesel engines – a 1.2-litre MultiJet II producing 95hp and 200Nm and a 1.6-litre MultiJet II with an output of 120hp and 320Nm.
