Latest Fiat 500 Model Revealed

Fiat has revealed the New Fiat 500 this weekend, on 4 th July!

The 4 th July is a very special date for the Fiat 500. It was on that date in 1957 that the original Fiat 500 was revealed, going on to capture the hearts of millions of Italians, selling almost 3.8 million cars in what was the first mass motorisation of the country.

Exactly 50 years later, on the 4 th July 2007, Fiat celebrated the 500's historic heritage by introducing the New Fiat 500, perfectly capturing the spirit and personality that made the original such a huge success.

After selling more than 1.5 million cars, the torch will now be passed to the latest edition of the Fiat 500 as Fiat has redesigned the New Fiat 500 to give it an up-to-date style and technology, without sacrificing the iconic 500 design that has made it such a global success.

The Engine

The New Fiat 500 will be available with a range of Euro 6-compliant petrol engines – choose between a 69hp 1.2-litre, an 85hp 0.9-litre TwinAir and a 105hp 0.9-litre TwinAir engine. These will be mated to either a 5 or 6 speed manual gearboxes, depending on the model.

The TwinAir 0.9-litre 85hp engine has an official fuel consumption figure of 74.3MPG on the combined cycle with extremely low CO2 emissions of just 90g/km!

The engine range will be expanded after launch, seeing the addition of a 69hp 1.2-litre engine in an 'eco' set up and a 1.3-litre 95hp Multijet II turbo diesel engine – one of the few small city cars to be available with a diesel engine!

The Exterior

The New Fiat 500 is still small and compact for city driving, measuring in at just 357cm long, 167cm wide and 149cm tall with a 230cm wheelbase!

Despite several changes to the front and rear design, the identity of the Fiat 500 remains and all of the distinctive elements that made the 1957 Fiat 500 such a huge success have been re-imagined with a more contemporary look and new modern technologies.

The circular headlights from the original 500 have been reworked to display a bolder and more confident on road presence. The circular headlight designs combined with LED lights that adopt the style of the zeroes in the '500' allow the New Fiat 500 to stand out, even in complete darkness.

The new model keeps the clamshell-shaped bonnet, a throwback to its iconic ancestor, and is complimented by a trapezoidal nose with pronounced ribbing and elegant chrome whiskers on either side of the Fiat badge. At the rear, the fog light and reversing lights have been moved to the edges of the bumper trim to improve the light efficiency and are finished in either black or chrome, depending on the model.

The New Fiat 500 introduces two new brand new colour schemes, too – Glam Coral and Avantgarde Bordeaux. This brings the total number of available colours up to 13 - seven pastels, one solid and five metallic.

The Interior

The interior has been brought right up-to-date, with extensive revisions throughout.

Most noticeable is the dashboard, which now integrates the Uconnect infotainment system across the entire range. The intuitive system provides the driver with improved usability, greater connectivity and functionality.

A TFT display above the steering wheel allows the driver to monitor data from the speedometer, odometer and trip computer at a glance, and the central area of the display can be used to display distance travelled, fuel consumption, range and trip time. Warning messages are also displayed on the TFT.

The front seats take on a more ergonomic shape and, along with the interior upholstery, are available in nine exciting colour combinations with contrasting upper portions and head restraints. Full leather upholstery is now available in Black, Bordeaux or Tobacco Frau Leather, embroidered with the 500 logo.

Further interior changes give the New Fiat 500 a more modern feel – including a new lidded glove box, a revised centre console with repositioned cup holders and 12V power socket and new electric windows.
