Fiat 500X at the 2014 Paris Motor Show

FIAT has unveiled the all-new Fiat 500X at the 2014 Paris Motor Show today (2nd October 2014), the latest addition to the Fiat 500 family!

The new 500X is an all-new crossover, with two different models available. One version features a more rugged look for stylish and active adventurers, while the other has a fun-loving and metropolitan style.

The Fiat 500X will be available with a range of engines and transmissions to suit all drivers. This includes a new nine-speed automatic transmission – a first for a FIAT vehicle!

The new nine-speed automatic transmission features 'shift-on-the-fly' mapping. This allows its four-wheel drive system to seamlessly switch between two- and four-wheel drive for full-time torque management without driver input using its fuel-saving rear axle disconnection system. This gives a highly efficient drivetrain that is sure-footed with dependable conditions in all conditions.

The Fiat 500X will feature a 'Drive Mood Selector' to allow the driver to choose the right experience for the right conditions, offering three different modes for engine, brakes, steering and gearbox/transmission settings. For the most comfortable and economical drive, there is 'Auto', for more performance, there is 'Sport', and 'All Weather' for maximum safety even in low grip situations.

In the more rugged version, 'All Weather' mode will be replaced with 'Traction', which will either speed up the transmission of torque to the rear-axle on four-wheel drive versions.

For front-wheel drive systems, instead there will be a 'Traction Plus' control system, offering an ideal solution to drivers who want the security of having a four-wheel drive system but without the slightly higher costs.

The new range of engines comprises four petrol and three diesel engines:

For front-wheel drive models:

  • 110hp 1.6-litre “E-torQ" petrol engine with a five-speed manual gearbox
  • 140hp 1.4-litre Turbo MultiAir II petrol engine with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed twin-clutch automatic transmission
  • 95hp 1.3-litre MultiJet II Turbo diesel engine with a five-speed manual gearbox
  • Or a 120hp 1.6-litre MultiJet II turbo diesel engine with a six-speed manual gearbox

And for all-wheel drive models

  • 170hp 1.4-litre Turbo MultiAir II petrol engine with a six-speed manual gearbox
  • 140hp 2.0-litre MultiJet II turbo diesel engine available with either a six-speed manual or the new nine-speed automatic transmission

The new 500X is compact on the outside, measuring 4.25 metres long, 1.80 metres wide and 1.60 metres high. It also has a spacious 350-litre luggage compartment.

But despite it's smaller size, it is spacious and inviting inside, with luxurious high-grade materials and top quality finishes.

This high-specification carries through to the advanced technology, centralised around a sophisticated 5-inch or 6.5-inch Uconnect colour touchscreen infotainment and sat nav system. Both systems feature Bluetooth, auxiliary and USB input to easily connect music devices such as iPods, and is operated through steering wheel remote controls and voice commands. DAB digital radio and a Beats Hi-Fi system are also available for an even better driving experience.

The 500X will be easy to customise with a range of body colours, alloy wheel designs and interior fabric and leather combinations available.

On sale next year, final specifications and pricing will be announced closer to launch.
