Extensive research shows that with many people leading such busy and hectic lives they will inevitably, at some point end up either mis-fuelling theirs or a partners car, mislaying their keys or simply scraping their alloys whilst rushing to park! With this in mind, when you buy a new or used car, Sturgess are delighted to offer a new product called 'Mishap Insurance' which will save you unnecessary worry and expensive bills.

Mishap insurance covers:

  • Keys
  • Broken key in lock
  • Lost key and replacement locks if necessary
  • Keys locked in the car
  • Hire Car, if stranded or car is unusable as a result of lost, stolen or broken keys.
  • £25 towards any towing charges.

Wheel Cover:

  • Covers a car or commercial vehicle up to a maximum of 3.5 tonnes.
  • Pays for repairs resulting from accidental damage to alloy wheels.
  • Covers repairs up to the value of £100 per claim.
  • Maximum number of claims payable is 5 per 12 months.

Mis-fuelling:

Covers the wrong fuel type being used (1 claim per policy year).

In the event the policy will cover up to a maximum of £1000 for the following benefits:

  • Damage caused
  • Replacement vehicle Hire
  • Towing charges
  • Replacement fuel

What does this Policy cover?

This Policy is a Mishap Protection Product which covers alloy wheel repairs, mis-fuelling and key cover.

This Policy is designed to cover:

  • Accidental Damage to the Alloy Wheels fitted to your Insured Vehicle up to a maximum benefit of £100 per Alloy Wheel
  • Loss, theft or damage to your keys, which are attached to your Key Fob up to a maximum benefit of £500 including VAT per policy year
  • Necessary repairs following the accidental mis-fuelling of your Insured Vehicle up to a maximum of £1,000 including VAT

Am I eligible for cover?

You will be eligible for Mishap Protection provided:-

The vehicle you are purchasing:

  • Is less than 7 Years Old and has a maximum mileage of up to 80,000
  • Is listed in Glass's Guide (Industry standard vehicle price guide), and;
  • Has been purchased no more than the 30 days prior to start date of your policy
  • Must be used principally in the United Kingdom.

You must also be insured at all times under a UK Motor Insurance policy which provides comprehensive cover.

Period of Insurance

Cover under this Policy lasts until the earliest of the following:

a) 12 or 24 months from the Start Date (dependent on the policy taken) or;
b) The cancellation of the Policy

Please note that this Mishap Protection Policy cannot be renewed.

Significant and unusual general conditions and exclusions

The below is only a brief summary and a selection of the General Conditions and Exclusions of the Policy.

  • You must advise the Administrator within 14 working days if you have moved property and request for your property address details to be amended on the Certificate of Insurance.
  • Unless written permission to the contrary is given by the Administrator cover under this Policy must be purchased no more than 30 days prior to the Start Date of this Policy.
  • Unless you cancel the Policy within 14 days from the Start Date of the Policy you will not be entitled to any refund of Premium thereafter.

No benefit will be payable under this Policy:-

  • If the incident happens within 14 days from the Start Date.
  • If your Vehicle is at the Start Date:

a) Over 7 years,or ;
b) Over 80,000 miles.

  • If your Insured Vehicle was purchased more than 30 days prior to the Start Date of this Policy
  • In respect of any Incident which occurs whilst your Vehicle is being used for:

a) pacemaking, racing, speed testing or reliability trials;
b) commercial business use of hire and reward including and not limited to taxi, courier services and private hire;c) an emergency vehicle;

or is being driven by any person not holding a valid current licence to drive your Vehicle.

  • In respect of any Incident by accident when the driver of your Vehicle is intoxicated by alcohol or under the influence of drugs not prescribed by a registered medical practitioner.
  • The Incident has resulted in your Vehicle being declared a Total Loss.
  • For any pre-existing problems or circumstances relating to Alloy Wheels, Keys, or Misfuelling that you knew about prior to the Start Date.

Important Information.

If your Motor Insurance provides you with a brand new replacement vehicle or replacement vehicle you may be able to transfer your policy to the replacement vehicle, providing your circumstances meet the terms and conditions of this policy. Please refer to the ‘Transfer of Policy to a Replacement Vehicle’ section of the policy terms and conditions for details.

Significant and unusual conditions and exclusions in respect of Benefit Section A: Alloy Wheels

The below is only a brief summary and a selection of the Conditions and Exclusions of the Policy. You may only claim for Alloy Wheels:-

1. If the Alloy Wheels are fitted to your Insured Vehicle at the time the incident occurred.
2. if the damage to the Alloy Wheels is accidental.

No benefit will be payable under this Policy for Alloy Wheels:-

1. if the Alloy Wheels fitted to your Vehicle are:-

a) Split rim construction, or;
b) Chrome rim, or;c) Laser cut rim (also know as diamond cut).

2. if the damage to the Alloy Wheels has not been caused by accidental damage

Significant and unusual conditions and exclusions in respect of Benefit Section B: Keys

The below is only a brief summary and a selection of the Conditions and Exclusions of the Policy.

You may only claim for Keys:-

  • 5 working days after the Key(s) have been verbally reported accidentally lost or stolen to the Administrator, provided the Key(s) have not been reported found or returned to the Administrator, within those 5 working days.
  • If the Key(s) are attached to the Key Fob at the date of the Incident.
  • Up to a maximum £500 including VAT per Policy year will be covered under this benefit section of the Policy.
  • If you have proof that any claim for Locksmith charges or replacement Lock(s) relate to the Key(s) and attached to the Key Fob that have been accidentally lost or stolen and that no duplicates are available.
  • If you have notified the Police in the event of the Key(s) being accidentally lost or stolen within 24 hours, and have obtained a crime reference number.

Important Conditions regarding Car Hire and Recovery under Benefit Section B:

  • The Car Hire vehicle must not exceed 1600cc.
  • Recovery will only be covered if the Insured Vehicle for which the Key(s) have been accidentally lost, stolen or broken in a lock of the Insured Vehicle cannot be recovered by another recovery agent for which the Insured or Immediate Family has an insurance, warranty or any other agreement or contract with or by any other means.

Important Conditions regarding Replacement Locks under Benefit Section B:-

  • Replacement Lock(s) must not be of a higher standard that those being replaced.
  • The Lock(s) will only be covered if the Lock(s) are damaged by the Insured or by Immediate Family to gain entry to the Insured Vehicle or the Insured's property to which the Lock has been damaged.

No benefit will be payable under this Policy for Keys under Benefit Section B:-

• If your accidentally lost or stolen Key(s) have been reported found or returned to the Administrator within 5 working days after the you have verbally reported the Key(s) accidentally lost or stolen.

No benefit will be payable under this Policy for Car Hire and Recovery under Benefit Section B:-

  • For Car Hire if you or your Immediate Family as a result of the Key(s) that have been accidentally lost, broken in Lock or have been stolen have not been left stranded.
  • Or any additional cost if the Car Hire exceeds £25 including VAT per day.
  • For Recovery for your Vehicle for which the Key(s) have been accidentally lost, stolen or broken in a lock of your Vehicle can be recovered by another recovery agent for which you or your Immediate Family has an insurance, warranty or any other agreement or contract with or by any other means.

No benefit will be payable under this Policy for Replacement Locks under Benefit Section B:-

  • For more than £50 including VAT per claim for the replacement Key(s), Locksmith Charges including replacement Lock(s) if the Key(s) has been broken in the Lock of your property or locked inside your property.
  • If the replacement Key(s) can be cut any claim for Locksmith charges including replacement Lock(s) will not be covered.
  • If you have not reported the theft of the Key(s) to the police and obtained a crime reference number (Exclusion No.12).
  • For more than £500 including VAT per Policy year under this benefit section of the Policy
  • If the Key(s) have been stolen by any person who has access to the Key(s) including but not limited to Immediate Family.
  • If the replacement Lock(s) are of a higher standard that those being replaced.

Significant and unusual conditions and exclusions in respect of BENEFIT SECTION C: MISFUELLING

The below is only a brief summary and a selection of the Conditions and Exclusions of the Policy.

You may only claim for Misfuelling:-

• If the incorrect fuel has been fuelled into the Insured Vehicle by you or your Immediate Family.

No benefit will be payable under this Policy for Misfuelling:-

  • For Recovery if your Vehicle was outside the Territorial Limits at the time of the Date of Incident.
  • If the incorrect fuel has been fuelled into your Vehicle by any one other than you or your Immediate Family.
  • As a result of the theft of your Vehicle the incorrect fuel has been fuelled into your Vehicle.

Important Exclusions regarding Car Hire under Benefit Section C:-

  • For Car Hire if someone other than the Insured or Immediate Family has misfuelled the Insured Vehicle.
  • If the Car Hire vehicle exceeds 1600cc.
  • For Car Hire, if you are claiming Car Hire under any other insurance policy or policies or through a third party for the same Incident.
  • Any excess payable in respect of any claim involving the Car Hire.
  • Any fares or delivery costs or tolls and ferry fares incurred in the course of the delivery and or collection of the Car Hire.
