Alfa Romeo 4C will still be admired in 30 years time
German motoring magazine 'Motor Klassik' recently asked which current car models are the most likely to go on and become collectible classics – and the Alfa Romeo 4C was crowned champion. The 4C was also winner in the Coupe category, as Italian design and racing inspired technology look set to dominate for a long time.
Over 20,000 classic car lovers placed their vote in the annual Motor Klassik Awards, praising the 4C for its use of Formula 1 style technology, stating that its peerless allure will last for decades to come.
Another aspect that the voters liked about the 4C is that it is part of Alfa Romeo's important tradition, following in a long line of classic sports cars, with other Fiat Chrysler models experiencing success in the Future Classic award in years past. The Alfa Romeo 159 and the Alfa Romeo 8C both claimed the award for their categories in 2009, while in 2012, readers chose the 1930's Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 as the 'Classic Car of the Year.'
The 4C has been hugely successful since launch – it has been named 'Best Car' by Auto Motor & Sport magazine, has won the 'Auto Trophy' organised by Auto Zeitung magazine in Germany, was named 'Car of the Year' by FHM magazine and was also chosen as 'The Most Beautiful Car of the Year' in a worldwide survey carried out by Festival Automobile magazine in France.
It is easy to see why the 4C is held in such a high regard. Using the best technology the racing world has to offer with a stylish carbon fibre cockpit and lightweight aluminium chassis. The two seat sports coupe boasts an impressive weight to power ratio of less than 4 kilograms – better than any supercar. Powered by a direct injection four-cylinder turbo engine that produces 240bhp, the 4C has a top speed of 160mph and will travel from 0-62mph in just 4.5 seconds.
It remains to be seen whether the Alfa Romeo 4C will stand the test of time and be regarded as a classic in 30 years time, but it is clear that the constant of the Italian manufacturer is stronger than ever.
